#57 Limestone in Violet: what to know

In a low town like Violet, water has to be moved off the lot, and #57 Limestone does it: clean crushed limestone of about three quarters to an inch with no fines, so rain runs through. It fills French drains and trenches, lines the drain behind a retaining wall, and beds pipe. On a rebuilt driveway it is the top course over a packed Crushed Concrete base, not the only base. Limestone raises the pH of soil, so keep it out of planting beds.

Questions

I am raising my lot after the flood. Which material do I order?

For rough fill to bring up the grade, River Sand or Spillway Dirt, packed in layers. Cap it with Premium Garden Soil where grass will grow. Fill under a slab, footing or foundation follows an engineer's spec, so ask your engineer before you order.

Is #57 stone the same as #57 limestone?

Yes. #57 stone is another name for #57 limestone. It is also called crushed limestone chips, limestone gravel and drainage rock.
