#57 Limestone in Gretna: what to know

Rain stays on flat Gretna clay, and #57 Limestone is the stone that moves it: clean crushed limestone of about three quarters to an inch with no fines, so water runs through. It fills a French drain along a fence or a slab edge, lines the drain behind a retaining wall, and beds pipe in a trench. On a driveway it is the top course over a packed Crushed Concrete base, never the only base. Limestone raises the pH of soil, so keep it out of planting beds.

Questions

Is the sidewalk or the driveway apron a good drop spot?

Better not. Gretna treats sidewalks, driveway aprons and curb cuts as public right of way, and work on them goes through the City's Public Works and Planning and Zoning. Ask for a spot on your own lot.

Is #57 stone the same as #57 limestone?

Yes. #57 stone is another name for #57 limestone. It is also called crushed limestone chips, limestone gravel and drainage rock.
